Phoenixville Ride

Aside from bikes, I'm also really into photography.  I often think about taking pictures while I ride, but always get too caught up in the ride to want to stop and do what it takes to take a respectable picture of something.  A couple of weeks ago I was determined to finally take some pictures of my friends while we rode bikes and informed everyone what it would require from them and asked for their participation.  Everyone was excited.

Yesterday, Anna and Peter joined me on a ride out to Phoenixville and back.  Anna had done a route out there before and we followed that, with a few stops for pictures along the way.  It was a nice, slower paced ride that included the Audubon Loop (uphill), riding through downtown Phoenixville and then coming back towards Valley Forge on some beautiful, winding, rolling roads.

It ended up being a 33.5 mile trip with between 500ft and 700ft of elevation.  Ignore my Garmin numbers because it's a terrible device, sometimes, and changes the rollout to numbers that don't make any sense.  You know, because it's always awesome to set your rollout to 2100, do a test to make sure everything is fine, then get back from a ride and see that it changed to 1888 and your numbers are way off from the other people you rode with.

Was this the first ride on the new bike? How did she perform?

It was the first outdoor ride for the Allez. The front end of the bike and the bottom bracket are both stiffer than the Tarmac was, but the rear doesn't come around as quickly, so it digs in and then pushes a bit. It handles better than the Guru with the same wheel/tire combo, it just doesn't have the immediacy that the Tarmac had. That's nitpicking though, I really like the bike. Climbs great.
